Instead they responded very predictably to the social pressure around them, which is believed they felt through the volume of clapping in the room. As more people started clapping, each individual who hadn't started felt more pressure to join in, the statistics showed.

The Jiaxing-Shaoxing sea bridge stretches 6.2 miles (10 kilometers) over the Hangzhuo Bay, in Shaoxing, China. It is mainky supported by two cable wires, both of which reach 745ft in the air and has a main body stretching 2560ft wide. The high speed bridge is designed for vehicles travelling exclusively above 60mph and pedestrains, motorbikes and cars with a maximum speed below 45mph are not allowed to cross. A cable stayed bridge has one of more towers where the cables are attached to support the bridge's deck.

CSIRO used 3D technology to create a computer aided design file of exact dimensions and then created the replica, which is up to 50 times their original size, using a 3D printer. However, in upcoming months the commonwealth agency is hoping to replicate  bugs anatomy down to the minute detail.

A farmer that grows Buddha shaped pears.

A new range of sonic fabric neckties has been designed, which are made of old cassette tape and could be played and could be played using a converter tape player. Artist and sound designer Alyce Santoro has released the neckties in collaboration  with fashion designer Julio Cesar. The Textile is 50% cassette tape and 50% polyester thread, it has consistency of denim, but is able to play audio. Half beige and half gray, the 'sonic superhero dress' was the first garment Santoro made in 2003. The sound the tie make is, according to Santoro, "like scratching five record backwards at once." It used 100 individual cassette tapes recorded wit a range of sounds - mix tapes, ocean surf, Lauri Anderson, Beethoven, The Beatles and her high school punk band.

Masahito Yoshida, 32, recently returned back to Shanghai after travelling for four and a half years around the world. He walked around 40000 kilometers around the world. He had with him a two wheeler vehicle in which he had all the important things he needed during his travel session. He had all the things in his two wheeler vehicle that he needed on daily basis. He started his journey around the world in 2009 from the city of Tottori, Japan. He had always wanted to see the isolated towns of the globe but he didnt wanted to see it form a plane or train.So he decided to walk instead. His first destination was Cape Roca, on the Portugese post where he arrived in 2010 after covering 16000 kilometers through Central Asia and Europe.He the took a plane to America, where he walked 6000 kilometers from Atlantic city, New York to Vancouver, Canada.  From Canada, he flew to Melbourne, Southern Australia, and made his way north, to Darwin, then Singapore and back to Shanghai, China. During his memorable journey, Masahito worn off seven pairs of walking shoes.

Ethiopian girl abducted by seven men saved by three lions.

A group of men saved a 12 year old girl from seven men who repeatedly beaten the girl and were forcing her to marry one of them.The girl was missing from a week.A group of three lions saw the girl in trouble and saved the girl from the abductors and guarded the girl until the police found the girl. The lions guarded the girl for about half a day. When the police found the girl with the lions, they at first didn't made a move, they didn't know how to approach,but then lions slowly stepped away from the girl leaving it to the hands of police as if leaving a present for them and then they went back to the forest. If the lions had not come to her rescue, the situation could have become much worse, one of the officials said.

Dog rescues baby tossed in rubbish heap in Thailand.

A clever dog in Thailand has become a local hero after he rescue a new born girl in a plastic bag from a roadside dump and carried the baby back to his master's house. The canine, a Thai Bangkaew called Pui, found a white plastic bag from a dump site in tamban Sala Loi in The Rua district. He carried it to her master Gumnerd Thongmak's house and barked loudly to get attention. Gumnerd's niece Sudarat, 12, said she went downstairs after hearing the dog barking  and found the bag on he patio. She opened it and was shocked to find a new born girl inside. Sudarat ran to get her mother and they took the babyto the Rua hospital, The Bangkok post reported. The baby weighs 2.2kg, hospital officials said. They believed she was born prematurely, at around seven and a half months. She was later transferred to Phranakhon Sri Ayutthaya hospital. Pui has also received a leather collar and a medal from the Rua district Red Cross chapter as a token of appreciation for his clever rescue.

They discovered the fact when twin boys Luke and Ryan Novosel, both 11, began counting up all the other twins in their Highcrest Middle School directory, in Wilmette, Ill. “We were absolutely shocked,” said their mother, Nancy Fendley. “It’s blowing it away,” she added.With some help from mom and dad, the boys submitted an application with Guinness earlier this year and after following up with birth certificates, photos and proof that all are enrolled at the school, they are to receive official recognition in several weeks.Most of the twins, who are mostly fraternal are three sets of boy-boy twins, 11 sets of girl-girl twins and 10 sets of boy-girl twins. The two sets of identical twins are girls. Man claims to have electrocuted an alien.

A Chinese man have posted photographs of him posted next to his alien which he claims to have trapped when it crash landed outside his house. Both the sexes agreed on the fact that men remain immature well into their late 30's and early 40's. In case of women, they were regarded as being mature 11 years earlier at the age of 32. The survey which was conducted by Nickelodeon UK, revealed that 8 out of 10 women interviewed believed that males never stop being childish. Childish acts include amusement with flatulence, playing video games. Other signs of immaturity included staying silent after rows, racing another car at traffic lights, being unable to cook simpler meals and sniggering at the rude words. The average British women asked their partners to act his age atleast once a month.Three out of ten have ended their relationship due to a guy's immaturity.

The Egyptian girl was born with a birth defect called craniopagus parasiticus. This is a very rare birth glitch that occurs when the embryo splits into two parts but refuses to complete the process leaving its twin with loads of brain diseases. Manar was operated with a team of 13 surgeons on 19 February 2005 when she was 10 months old to separate her conjoined twin. The procedure being complex and ambiguous the surgery lasted 13 long hours.The little kid though survived the surgery and subsequent brain operations but eventually died an year later on 25 March 2006 due to excessive brain infection, pneumonia and serious heart condition.

A Russian billionaire planning to become immortal by 2045.

Dimitry Itskov, a 32 year old Russian billionaire is planning on living forever. He plans to achieve this feat by 2045, which gives the name of his idea-"Initiative 2045". He has a simple plan to make an android body for himself. The idea aims to create the technology enabling the transfer of a persons personality into an advanced  non biological carrier and extending life, including to the point of immortality. Itskov has named his "advanced non biological carrier" "an avatar", which is regulated by a brain computer interface. Itskov says it functions somehow like the 2009 James Cameron movie Avatar. Itskov also says that by the year 2025 he expects autonomous life support system for a human brain linked to a robot, which means he will be on a hold of technology that could implant human brain into a robot. By the year 2035 a human should be able to upload there brain into a robot and by the year 2045 we will be replaced by holograms or our body will be. "We will transform into a new species, when this will happen," says Itskov.

Eating less could help you remember more, researchers have found.Skipping dessert and having an after-dinner coffee instead could also be good for your brain, as well as your waistline.The news comes from an Italian study into ‘calorific restriction’ – the idea that near-starvation rations boost health and extend life.Scientists have long known of the phenomenon, but have struggled to work out just what it is about severely cutting calories that improves health.Researcher Giovambattista Pani decided to focus on a protein called CREB1 that is known to be important to memory and learning.In experiments on mice, he showed that cutting calories boosted learning if the animals could still make CREB1. He also showed that cutting calories boosts the amount of the protein made in the brain.The animals’ calorie count was only cut by 25 to 30 per cent. In human terms, this equates to about 600 calories a day.

Cadbury spends Euro 6 million on making its chocolate bars stand up.

Research showed customers are more likely to succumb to their sweet tooth if they see a complete bar of chocolate rather than just its side.Kraft is using the cash on a new production line at its factory in Birmingham to repackage bars of Dairy Milk, Whole Nut, and Fruit and Nut. Each cardboard box will be fitted with a spring that prevents the bars from falling over. It also pushes the confectionery forward each time one is removed

Egypt wasn't reaping any of the monetary benefits of the canal even though it was located in Egypt. Barthaldi realized that he could never put his statue in Egypt, because they didn't have the financial means. He was heartbroken and sailed to New York. As his ship entered New York harbor, Barthaldi spotted the deserted, oval island of Bedloe. It was perfect for his statue. The French and Americans were friends, and between the two of them, they paid for the statue. The statue was revamped and sent to the US.

Workers exposed to daylight have better quality of life.

A new study has demonstrated a strong relationship between workplace daylight exposure and office workers- sleep, activity and quality of life. Compared to workers in offices without windows in the workplace, and those with windows in the workplace received 173 percent more white light exposure during work hours and slept an average of 46 minutes more per night. There also was a trend for workers in offices with windows to have more physical activity than those without windows. workers without windows reported poorer scores than there counterparts on quality of life measures related to physical problems and vitality, as well as poorer outcome on measures of overall sleep quality, sleep efficiency, sleep disturbances and daytime dysfunction. "The extent to which daylight exposure impacts office workers is remarkable," study co author Ivy Cheung, a doctoral candidate in the Interdepartmental Neuroscience program at Northwestern University at Chicago, Illinois said.

Menu labeling lowers caloric intake.

According to a new research, menu labeling has made ore people aware of how many calories are in restaurant meals and has some people reducing their intake. The study evaluated the effects of new requirements for chain restaurants to label their menu items with their corresponding caloric content by following restaurant patrons 18 months after implementation of the law- a longer period than previously published studies. The researchers looked at various types of chain restaurants, including burger restaurants, sandwich shops and coffee shops. "Most people have no idea how many calories are found in restaurant meals," said lead study author James Kreiger, MD, MPH, of the public health department of Seattle and King County in Washington. The study found that after the regulations were put in place, more people reported being aware of posted caloric information. after 18 months, customers of taco restaurants consumed fewer overall calories from beverages. Those results may be due to 'customization', Krieger said, people can decide whether to put additional calories of sour cream or guacomole on a taco.

In 1999, a man from Utah bought a McDonald's hamburger and kept for 14 years. The burger looked exactly the same as and when he first bought it. David Whipple kept the fast food meal for a month to show friends how the preservative packed hamburger would keep its composure. But he forgot about it, finding it two years later in his coat pocket  then he decided to continue bizarre experiment. However, even he was shocked to see that the hamburger still looks the same a whopping 14 years later. 'It sat in  my coat pocket for a year or two after it sat in my truck' David told US talk show, The doctors. 'When we discovered it, we were like, "oh my gosh! I can't believe it looks the same way". Mr Whipple has no plans to part with his historic burger and has said he will shoe it to his grandchildren.

Mikki, the chimpanzee, was taught to use camera by Russian artists Vitaly Komar and Alexander Melamid after they discoveres him at the Moscow circus. The 15 year old chimp's snaps of Moscow's Red Square are said to represent his take on the world in a place where millions of photos are taken by tourists, The sun reported. The collection -called Our Moscow Through The Eyes Of Mikki- will be sold at an auction this month and is expected to fetch between 50000 and 70000 pounds. The pictures taken in 1998, include a shot of Mikki being taught how to hold and use a camera before he begins to shoot. "It's a very important piece of work, and it is very exciting to be able to sell pictures at an auction," Suad Garayeva, Creator of Contemporary Art at Sotheby's London, said. 'There's been a lot of interest because its very unusual and it works on so many different levels. It's an alternative view of Moscow as seen through an alternative vision," he said.

20 minutes bout of yoga boosts brain function.

A single, 20 minute session of yoga can significantly improve brain function, a new study led by an Indian origin researcher has found. University of Illinois student Neha Gothe and her colleagues found that a 20 minute session of Hatha Yoga improved participants speed and accuracy on tests of working memory and inhibitory control, two measures of brain function associated with ability to maintain focus and take in, retain and use new information. Participants performed significantly better immediately after the yoga practice than after moderate to vigorous aerobic exercise for the same amount of time. The 30 study subjects were young, female, undergraduate students. "Yoga is an ancient Indian science and way of life that includes not only physical movements and postures but also regulate breathing and meditation," said Neha Gothe, who led the study while graduate student at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.

A group of US researchers has produced a robotic set of legs which they believe is the first to fully model walking in a biologically accurate manner.The neural architecture, musculoskeletal architecture and sensory feedback pathways in humans have been simplified and built into the robot, giving it a remarkably human like walking gait. The robots biological accuracy has allowed the researchers to investigate the processes underlying walking in humans and may bolster theories of how babies learn to walk as well as helping to know how spinal cord injury can recover the the ability to walk, the journal of neural engineering reports.
